The True Oracle of Pompeii
As the evil man led his soldiers out of their house, she lay there crying. There was still so much pain and what was left of the birth inside me. She no longer cared about any of this but watched as Rogerius came over, and knelt by her side.
“Are you alright? Come on, we need to go get our daughter back!”
“No,” I said weakly. I knew that I no longer had the energy to do anything. We heard loud booms coming from the direction of the volcano. Something strange happened within those seconds. An owl flew into their home and perched herself by their side. A new vision came to her. “You. You go Rori. You need to save our little girl. I cannot leave. The goddess, Minerva, has given me one last prophecy. The goddess of war wants to ensure that the Roman gods stayed connected to this Earth just like Ares had done for the Olympians. She was chosen for this task, as was you. You need to get out of Pompeii. Meet Minerva and remarry to her. Then you can take your special child with you as you go out to find our daughter.”
Rori cried holding me tightly. ‘I cannot, I only love you. How could I love a goddess? All I want is our daughter and protect her.’
‘You have to, you know you do,’ she said with tears. With all that she had done, she knew that even if the city was not going to burn she would not live through this. Her body was spent. He nodded and kissed her one last time before he ran out with nothing to his name but his rank as an officer. She lay on the table breathing heavily, with blood pouring out of her body. She let out one last tear before she felt the heat consume her as the ashes fell into their home.
